Volunteer Opportunities
- Do you seek a rewarding volunteer opportunity?
- Do you think you are a good listener?
- Would you like to become a better listener?
Participation in our training programs is both challenging and rewarding. Volunteers are trained in a special communication skill called active listening. Basically, it is the art of communicating with another human being in an open, non-judgmental and accepting manner. The skill is based on empathy and the worker’s respect for the dignity of their fellow humans. Ideally, the phone worker assists the caller in calming down, clarifying the problem(s) and helping the callers to develop their own solutions. Does this happen in one call? Some times! However, since all Contact workers are skilled in active listening, no matter if it is one call or several, the approach remains the same, the goals do not change!

Benefits of CONTACT Training
The foundation of CONTACT training is based on the learning of active listening skills. These skills provide our volunteers with the ability to truly “hear” another person without projecting their own judgments, ideas, advice, etc. The benefits of learning active listening are well worth the effort – not only for our callers, but it performs a miracle for our telephone workers as well. The listening skills acquired make the practitioner calmer, a better spouse, parent, friend and grandparent, and it performs wonders at work. Learning to listen is a priceless gift and it is available free of charge!
